Former Kalyani Municipality chairman and zoology professor of Kanchrapara College, Pradip Sur, has been appointed new West Bengal School Service Commission chairman. Sur was also Kalyani Town Trinamool Congress president for six years from 2007 to 2013. The political appointment has sparked controversy among academic circles.
